In emirates you can take. No extra payment if it iscovered within your baggage allowance. The carton box dimension should be exactly 250.8 Cm by adding W+H+D ( 1464 + 819 + 225 mm ). Even if it is 1 cm more, in airport they will not accept. Though the call center and website of Emirates say 300 cms altogether adding H+D+W is allowed but in airport the scanning machine will accept only the size of 250.8 Cm. Pls do not take a chance of buying a TV more than this mentioned size and this is from my personal experience. FYI, even you can take 65 inch TV but subject to the carton size falls within 250.8 Cm. Take the bill along with you as in India you show the bill so that they will calculate 36.5% tax if not they have listed value for the TV and they will charge that amount which will be excess. You have to take INR cash as foreign currency not accepted. Tip: If you travel while IR value is low then while they convert KD to INR for tax calculation it will be less if not you will be paying more while conversion.

Many thanks for your detailed reply. But have you taken 55" or more with your Checked in luggage by yourself? By the way, is not it other way around of KWD/INR rate fluctuation for tax calculation that you mentioned in the tip?

Yes, I myself travelled along with allowed baggage. For the tax calculation they will calculate KWD to INR. For example, you bought the TV for 150 KD in Kuwait while the INR conversion is 212 and while you land the KWD rate is 215 then the tax calculation will be 150 * 215 and the amount to 36% so you will end paying 3 RS more for each KD.

Does anyone have experience carrying a 55" TV to India? I am travelling by Gulf Air. Does Gulf Air charge fees to carry 55" TV?

Just sharing additional info. I want to carry 40" TV by Kuwait airways. I read their baggage terms which clearly mentions that carton box upto 157 cm can be termed as normal baggage. I presume that 40' TV box should not exceed the allowed dimensions. Some how I was not convinced on what KA says. I went to their office to ask personally in order to avoid any surprises at the airport and I was right. KA policy is that only 32" TV can be taken as free baggage allowance and anything above 32" TV should be paid 35 KD flat irrespective of size. KA further says even if we have only 1 TV of 40" and nothing else still we have to pay 35 KD.
The above info. is for those who wish to carry 40" and larger TV by KA
