Dear Friends,
Yesterday i had seen an interview in a media and I have one doubt whcih anybody here experienced can clear it out.
The proposed new dam location is several kms down the existing mullaperiyar dam. if a new dam created there, it will be on a lower lever than the present dam and it will be very difficult to maintain the present water level height in the new dam also so that the tamil nadu district will easily get the water as they are getting now and if the new dam needs the present water level height, a large are of kerala will go under water.
If i am wrong, please comment..

Peekay...i read the article on the link. Good info.
The article narrates the chronological development of this issue.
The article says, A committee headed by Justice AS Anand was nomineted, by supreme court bench,on 21.04.10. Then on the recall petition by TN Govt, center asked TN govt to nominate a member from TN in the committee. TN Has done nothing on it so far. Thats the end of the article.
I strongly disagree on 3 things TN people have MISBELIEVED
1. DAM WAS STRENGTHENED SOME YEARS BACK, AND THEREFORE THERE IS NO DANGER.....that strengthening measures cant hold a 50 yr lifed, and 115 yrs old dam!!
2. TN people says if 6.5 rithcer scale quake happens even a new dam will not exist....But this old dam can not even stand 5 scale quake!!
3. It is only a matter of water source for TN , but it is the matter of LIFE for kerala. Even if you suspect on the MISBELIEVED aspects, YOU MUST SHOW HUMANITY TOWARDS BROTHER INDIANS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

Dear Brothers,
TN's opposition to the new dam is based from their experience that they got it from Karnataka regarding the Cauvery Waters.
They were silent when some new dams were constructed in Karnataka. And they are starving each year for their quota from Karnataka. Central Governments, Supreme court, Tribunals.... could not help to give their water as per the agreement.
Now they think they are over smart, prohibiting Kerala to build a dam assuming their right of water will be prohibited. But Kerala geographically and agriculturally not similar to Karnataka. Somebody should canvass this to Tamilians.

Mr TN Friend...The engineers who built only gave 50 yrs life but the dam is already 115 yrs old.
Even if you say the dam is strong, what about earth quakes.? It can not withstand more than 5 ritcher scale quake.
There are many small quakes have happened in recent past, with the chances of bigger quakes existing.
For the sake of lives of millions , TN has to show some compromise. That is Humanity.

a worried Keralite..
TN, when the active capacity of Mullaperiyar is 299,130,000 m3 (242,509 acre·ft, it is extremely foolish on your part to ask the people to stand on it's way..... do you expect them to wave their hands happily too?
If TN as a state of India needs water, it is time they found a way to take it peacefully and in a fair manner.
Yes.. TN has Keralites too.. they may be working, studying or just visiting.... in the end we are all Indians are we not?

6) Tamil Nadu will not get water for irrigation or drinking anymore, as stored water in Mullaperiyar dam will flow to the ocean, when the dam collapses.
7) Along its course, the water current will wash Idukki Dam, and many many Industries , Factories, IT Parks, Hospitals, Ports, Cochin City, temples, mosques, churches etc etc to the Arabian Ocean.
8) A disaster 180 times terrific than Hiroshima. This is not exaggeration. Spread this, my friends. Information is power. Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu are stakeholders in this issue.

Careperson...if you asked this question in other sense that, we dont even get the consideration of what the wild animals get, I agree with your feelings.
But if it is not that...when everyone is on street with demonstrations for the human lives, and if these activists raise voice for wild animals, they will be beaten up!!!
When everyone is raising voice for a new dam, there is no need for another demo as you mention. That is irrelevant.
In my opinion more and more people, associations, unions, whatever groups, all should come on street with every day demo till something really valuable move is done for this.
I feel deeply distressed by CM's ways, for not going to Delhi to meet PM. If he had gone that makes more meaning for our stands.
We would have said "Kerala CM is at Delhi ready for talk with anyone".Thats the message. Then we can ask why TN CM is not coming. Where she is hiding.
Now we can not ask that.
SHAME ON CHANDY.
