Kuwait may ban expats from owning more than 2 cars

Authorities are considering a proposal to regulate the number of vehicles expatriates are allowed to own. According to reports by local media, traffic department at the interior ministry is preparing to issue a decree prohibiting expatriates from registering more than two vehicles in their name for personal use. If they need more than this specified number, they must approach the traffic department with a request and provide justifications. Additional fee may be charged for each additional vehicle.

According to reports, this measure is to combat unlicensed trading, reduce pollution, alleviate traffic congestion and address the scarcity of parking spaces for citizens at commercial complexes, markets and various public places. It also says that there is a widespread presence of dilapidated vehicles owned by expatriates on Kuwaiti streets, contributing to congestion, chaos and traffic accidents. They use the public spaces and parking lots designated for schools, mosques and commercial complexes for parking these vehicles.

High time to shift focus on Expats and tackle the real issues.
There is going to be hardly any expats left in Kuwait in the next 5 years looking at the way things are going. Only 3 categories will be left
1)Non medical couples , 2)Money priority ones and 3)No other choice ones.

Is there other good ways to reduce traffic without disturbing kuwait''s unspoken norms. Seems this emerges as best route for lawmakers to implement (quick and easy)... Plus iik readers should not apply this news to themselves (ones with 2-3-4 member families). Instead apply to many of those (not just indian) expat who are misusing by buying multiple cars and hiring drivers or for their spouses who are not eligible....and then those expat who are using private cars for trading purpose. (vans and mini bus - they have private numbers). The whole phenomenon creates exponential effect resulting in parking, traffic, accident problems everywhere, disregarding others and creating resentment...This bill is frustrated attempt of that sort of solution... Main aim is of removing bogus social elements....who take undue advantage of the system...

If the aim is to reduce traffic on the roads, this law does not make sense. A person even if he owns 2 vehicles cannot drive both vehicles at the same time. This rule will only help to increase parking spaces.

Expat vehicle makes pollutions? and Citizen vehicle wont?
Also most expat has only 1 or 2 cars. And expat park cars in school parking space. empty grounds and mosque parking. yes i agree but where is the parking space for residents in which they stay? there is hardly basement parking nor any parking space alloted to residents so where will the expats park? find and safe guard the root cause then make rules.

Having Kuwait license is very hard to get
.I am in Kuwait more than 18 years and have no license. When my salary was 200 I was thinking once reach 250can apply for license. Than the law was changed to 400 to obtain license. After some years I reach 400 than the law was changed to 600 to obtain license. Now I am looking for increase in my salary to 600 may be it will reach 10 more years to obtain this. I have family and I have degree and attestation done. But unfortunately I can''t apply for driving license. Laws make me down.obey laws.
