63 Years of being an Indian!

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new…India discovers herself again."

- Jawaharlal Nehru

In the annals of history, 26th January 1950 will always be remembered as a day of an extraordinary accomplishment, of when India defined its structure and set out its fundamental rights. Every year, we celebrate Republic Day with great fervor as well as joy and justifiably so, as it commemorates that day, when after many years of subjugation, our country finally defined itself. Our school FAIPS DPS, too thought it right to spark a patriotic fervor in our hearts and remind us of our glorious history, our rich culture and tradition, to renew our pledge to protect and cherish our motherland.

The two-day long event at FAIPS DPS on the 23th January and 24th January, saluted the indomitable spirit of our Incredible India. The school building was beautifully decorated with banners, buntings, pictures of heroes of the freedom movement, national symbols and the national flag. The event began with a mesmerising assembly that, rightly quoted by our Principal, Mrs. Anju Dheman, in literal sense was ‘reliving history’. From Gandhiji to Raja Ram Mohan Roy to Rani Lakshmibai, all the characters came alive through the dialogue and enactment of the students of Grade- 5 and 6, and rekindled the reminiscences of our magnificent past. The Jalianwalah Bagh Massacre to the Dandi March, each major event of our freedom struggle was aptly portrayed by the students, showing the immsense efforts put in by the students and the teacers to rekindle the fire of patriotism in each and everyones hearts.

‘What animal is on the insignia of the RBI?’ to ‘Which Indian was conferred with the honour of the ‘Hero of Soviet Union’?’ All these questions and more in the Interhouse India Quiz, left our minds baffled and filled us with a feeling of Pride at India’s rich cultural heritage and left us in awe of the excellence achieved by numerous Indians on the Global platform, broadening the frontiers of knowledge about our motherland India, in an enjoyable way. The battle of the megaminds was fought between the Saffron, White, Green, Red and Black teams, from grades 8, 9 and 10. To add a twist to the already exhilerating quiz, the last and final round’s questions were asked by our very own Principal, Mrs. Anju Dheman. In the end, the Green team stormed the show, displayed their skill and mastery in quizzing and hence won the competition. Partaking in our intellectual festivities, we had the First Lady Mrs Priti Mehta, grace the event and congratulate the participants and winners.

The Interhouse-singing contest, for grades 7 and 8, was the next event that echoed the Melody of Patriotism and Togetherness, filling everyone’s hearts and mind, thus binding us with an invisible thread of national unity. The show was an amalgamation of patriotic songs, from ‘Aye Mere Watan ke logon’ to ‘Maa, Tujhe Salaam’, showcasing the fervour of India, leaving the audience mesmerised and spellbound. The fabulous performance by the Truth house touched the hearts of the judges, made our emotions run high and filled us with an immense feeling of love for our country, winning them the first place.

The last and final event of the two-day long celebration was the Primary School Assembly, in which the tiny tots from grades 1-4, paid tribute to our country through various cultural activities.

The celebration came to an end with the National Anthem echoing the ray of hope for the rising Nation India. Those 52 seconds were the most powerful 52 seconds of the celebration. Our voices ignited the fire of hope for the future, burning bright in the hearts of each and every future citizen of India.

63 years of freedom

63 years of liberty

63 years of justice

63 years of equality

63 years of BEING AN INDIAN!

Jai Hind!
