Traffic Department to install more cameras on roads

General Traffic Department (GTD) has announced a decision to increase the number of Traffic cameras on the roads and Traffic signals, and at the same time, issue new laws to intensify punishments against Traffic violations.

Local Arabic news paper, quoting a reliable source, reported that the number of traffic cameras distributed on the roads and streets reaches 380, and the decision to increase the cameras will help curtail the rate of Traffic accidents as well as Traffic violations.

He declared the number of direct violations recorded by the cameras on various roads last year reached two million, indicating a large number of motorists do not follow the Traffic rules and regulations.

The source said “it has become necessary to intensify the punishment against Traffic violators”, especially as high-tech Traffic cameras installed on the roads have recorded several motorists using mobile phone and deviating from the marked lanes.
