Move to put a limit on the number of cars owned by an expat

Authorities are planning to curb the number of cars owned by an expatriate in the country. However, as per the law, there is no such limit and authorities identified that hundreds of expatriates own more than 50 cars each and practice buying, selling, and leasing cars without a license. Some of them also rent their cars for a monthly rental without any license.

This practice of used car trading without any approval is causing a huge loss of money to the state treasury. They are supposed to obtain commercial licenses, regulate the sale and purchase of vehicles, and pay annual fees for doing this legally.

The sources said that the General Traffic Department seeks to eliminate this phenomenon by issuing a decision that limits the number of vehicles allowed to be registered in an expatriates name. In addition, a fee will be charged for any extra car.
