Kuwait Red Wins Women’s Cricket Cup

Kuwait Cricket added one more feather in their cap as they organized a full day event of entertaining cricket exclusively for women cricketers on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Sulaibiya turf ground. It was indeed a great response from women cricketers from various parts of Kuwait who were grouped into three teams namely Kuwait Red, Kuwait Blue and Kuwait Green.

Each of the teams were lined up to play two matches in the robin league and the top teams in the league were billed for the final. After the conclusion of the robin league, Kuwait Blue and Kuwait Red teams stood out to take top honors. Kuwait Green fought brilliantly with great determinations but were toppled in the average net run chase.

This tournament was a platform for women cricketers to exhibit their skills as they competed with great fighting spirits to match up with the rest. Kuwait Cricket’s Women selection committee are all thrilled by the response of women cricketers and are planning to have similar tournaments in future. Kuwait Women’s U-19 National team to participate in the ACC –U19 women’s championship is to be selected from the best players out of the lot.

Kuwait Cricket would like to invite more women cricketers to participate in the forthcoming local tournaments

Results of the tournament:

First match played between Kuwait Red v/s Kuwait Green.

Kuwait Red scored 80 runs in the allotted 10 overs.

Kuwait Green scored 70 runs losing 7 wickets in 10 overs, Kuwait Red won by 10 runs. Iqra and Sabreen scored 11 and 8 runs respectively. Khadija and Warda took a wicket each.

Second match played between Kuwait Red v/s Kuwait Blue.

Kuwait Red scored 82 runs in 10 overs.

Kuwait Blue completed the target losing only a wicket. Kuwait Blue won by 9 wickets.

Maryam Omar and Rida scored 12 and 8 runs respectively. For Kuwait Red, Sabreen scored 8 runs. Aiman and Maryam Omar took 2 wickets respectively.

Third match played between Kuwait Green v/s Kuwait Blue.

Kuwait Green scored 69 runs in 10 overs.

Kuwait Blue completed the target losing 2 wickets. Kuwait Blue won by 8 wickets.

Amna, captain of Kuwait Green scored a fighting knock of 26 runs in 26 balls. Maryam scored 15 runs for Kuwait Blues. Amal took 1 wicket for Green.

The Final match played between Kuwait Red v/s Kuwait Blue.

Kuwait Red's Captain Khadija won the toss and invited Kuwait Blues to bat first, Kuwait Blue's captain Maryam Omar opened the innings with Maryam Haider. Kuwait Blues scored 73 runs in 10 overs. Maryam Omar played a captain’s knock to score 19 runs. Aiman bowled superbly taking two important wickets and was well supported by Sabreen.

In reply Kuwait Red's Maryam Ashraf played sensibly well to score 9 runs as she was well supported by Sabreen and Khadeeja who scored 12 and 7 runs respectively.

Kuwait Red won the final by 9 wickets.

Maryam Omar and Amna Sharif were declared as the best batswomen of the tournament

Sabreen Zaki was selected as the best all rounder women’s player

Tournament was witnessed by large supporting crowd, parents and cricket lovers.

Director General of Kuwait Cricket Mr. Asad Baig gave away the Winners Trophy to Khadeeja. Director of Women's Cricket Mr.Mehboob Khan gave away the runners trophy to Maryam. Deputy Director Mr. Amanulla gave away the runners up trophy to Amna. Mr. Tahir Khan, Mr.Iqbal Hussain, Coaches Mr.Tareq Shah, and Mrs. Sandra gave away the Certificates to the players and Mr. Wasim Bajwa gave away best performance player's Trophy to Sabreen.
