Electricity consumption reaches record high

The heat wave sweeping the country has brought the electricity load index up again. The electrical load index in the country recorded the highest digit in the history of Kuwait, reaching 17,120 megawatts, surpassing the number it recorded at the beginning of this summer.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced that 3 sub-feeders from the main transformer station in Mina Abdullah “M” went out of service yesterday afternoon, which led to a power outage in limited parts of the Ali Sabah Al-Salem area. Emergency teams are present at the site to take the necessary measures and restore power.

The failure of two sub-feeders from the main transformer station in Salwa also caused a power outage in parts of Block (1) in the Rumaithiya area.

The world is gradually changing to electrical vehicles. There are more usage of smart phones, computers, more commercial complexes etc. Therefore, the demand for electrical energy is increasing, which cannot be met by renewable sources of energy. There is a need of more power plants to meet the demands.
