"Ahalan wa Sahlan": High hope on imminent Narendra Modi

The Indian community received the possible visit of prime minister Narendra Modi to Kuwait with great enthusiasm. Even though the government is tight-lipped on the visit, speculation is that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kuwait during the first week of January 2022. This is a much-awaited visit for the largest expatriate community living in Kuwait.

If the speculations are correct, Narendra Modi will be the second Prime Minister of India to visit Kuwait, and this visit is happening after 40 years. Earlier, Smt Indira Gandhi had visited Kuwait in 1981 when she was the Prime Minister of India.

According to sources, the purpose of the visit is to thank Kuwait for standing with India during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and taking care of the huge Indian diaspora here. With around 1 million people, Indians are the largest expatriate community in Kuwait.

The community has received the news of Shri Narendra Modi's expected visit to Kuwait with great enthusiasm.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's visit to Kuwait will further cement the solid brotherly relations that Kuwait and India shares for ages. In terms of furthering bilateral relations, trade, commerce and cultural exchange, we are confident that the impetus that his charismatic personality will generate will be enormously beneficial for the Indian diaspora and across all sections of the community, CA Kaizar Shakir - Immediate Past Chairman of ICAI Kuwait Chapter and Treasurer of IBPC said. "Modiji's visit to Kuwait will definitely make positive changes in all aspects of the bilateral relationship between the two great Nations," Prominent education entrepreneur and Chairman of Bhavans Schools in Kuwait, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Oman Mr. N. K. Ramachandran Menon said.

The proposed visit of Shir Narendra Modi is giving new hope for over 10 lakh plus Indians currently living in Kuwait. During the second wave of Covid, when India phased severe Oxygen shortage, Kuwait has emerged as one of the most significant contributors of oxygen-related support to India. A substantial amount of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) was shipped from Kuwait to India during the crisis time.

"The visit of our PM Modi, not only is a much-awaited one—considering that nearly 40 years have passed since an Indian PM visited this nation which is home to a nearly one million strong Indian community, but shall also be a reiteration of the sturdy bilateral relationship, encompassing trade, (mutual) trust and technology," Dr Navniit Gandhi - well known academician and writer opinied.

Whether the Prime Minister will be interacting with the Indian community in Kuwait or not is still not clear, the community at large is eagerly waiting for the visit to happen after a long forty years.
