ASSP Kuwait Chapter - WISE Committee held a session on "Professional Development on Health Safety for Women"

As part of American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Kuwait Chapter's 10th HSSE Professional Development Conference and Exhibition, Women in Safety Excellence (WISE) team conducted a women's session on Health Safety.

The event was held on 18th December 2019 at Hotel Regency. The goal of the program was to bring awareness among the women community about the health safety measures on Cosmetic Surgeries, Mental Health, Nutrition etc.

Mrs Janet Najare, WISE Committee Member welcomed all and gave an introductory presentation on "WISE Committee" and its activities in Kuwait.

Ms Diana Stegall, President ASSP, USA gave the welcome speech with briefing of WISE Activities. Dr Shaika Al Fajjam, Head of WISE welcomed the distinguished panel of Speakers to the Event. Dr Ebtihal Al Habeeb, Dr Mariam Al Awadi, Dr Mai Al Hazzaa and Dr Entisal Al Hendal were the Speakers.

"In today's world Cosmetic Surgery has become very common and we women need to know the right procedures to follow for an effective surgery", Dr Ebtihal Al Habeeb, Medical Director of Saray Clinic, downtown Branch explained the Pros and Cons of Cosmetic Surgeries or Aesthetic Procedures. She explained the safe methods and procedures needed to follow to have a successful surgery.

Dr Mariam Al Awadhi, Asst. Professor - Dept. of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University gave a brief on Mental Health. She explained on Various depressions women go through in their lives. She stressed on the depressions one suffers during Pregnancy, After Delivery, PMDD etc. If depression is not treated on time it can sometimes be fatal in some cases. Depression is a mental health condition which requires appropriate treatment when diagnosed.

Dr Mai Al Hazzaa, MD, MSc, Phd Clinical Nutritionist in Jaber Al Ahmed Hospital stressed on being healthy from within. She explained the Nutritional aspects for women. She gave the importance of Good Nutrition and staying healthy. There was a briefing on deficiencies in Iron, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12.

Dr Entesar Al-Hendal, Team Leader Preventive Medicine services in Kuwait Oil Company(KOC) explained the health problems one can face due to high sugar and how one can reduce sugar to keep themselves fit and healthy. "We can reduce weight just by stop eating sugar", she said. "If we stop consuming sugar for consecutive 15 days, then we can easily be away from sugar," she said.

This informative health session was followed by Question & Answer session. Take away gifts were given to the attendees who answered correctly.

Dr. Sheikha Al Fajjam and ASSE Executive Committee gave token of appreciation to the Speakers by handing over mementos to them. Mrs Zahida Farooq, Deputy Head WISE Committee gave the Vote of Thanks.

Around 20+ women professionals attended this useful and informative session. Session was sponsored by Kirby Building Systems and HEISCO. The session concluded with Lunch for all the attendees.
