What is Diwali?

Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.

It is celebrated every year on the 14th of november

Diwali is not only important to Hindus, but it is also celebrated among Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs. ... Thus, the tradition of lighting oil lamps on Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil and freedom from spiritual darkness.

Why were crackers used during diwali celebration?

Bursting crackers are like a tradition from 500 years ago till now.

We burst crackers in Diwali because Chinese believed that loud bursting sounds and lights would ward off and scare evil and notorious spirits away a custom picked up by other cultures and countries including India.

Is crackers dangerous for health?

Crackers are very dangerous, especially in the hands of children, this is because of the Oxides and dioxides of sulphur and nitrogen are released during the burning of crackers. They make air pollution that creates carcinogenic Sulphur compounds and airborne arsenic effect. They can cause water contamination and acid rains.

How can we use crackers safely?

So here are some way you can have a fun and be safe when using crackers

Kids must have parent or adult supervision

Have a first aid kit and a bucket of water, just in case a fire starts

Never prank anyone with it

Never play with it indoors, insted do it outdoors

Maintain a distance far from the cracker when it is going to burst, so you will not hurt yourself

Make sure there are no inflammable objects nearby, it might start a fire

Make sure you are not wearing silk or any synthetic cloth, it might catch fire and burn you, instead opt for cotton cloths

Strictly avoid using matches and lighters to light the cracker, use a lit agarbatti instead

Let us use these methods to stay safe and enjoy celebrating the festival of light that is Diwali
