Seven Personal Hygiene in Islam

Sunday, March 10, 2024

The holy Quran and the prophet Muhammed PBUH urged always cleanliness and personal hygiene.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH said” Cleanliness is part of our religion”.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH and Quran which is revelation to him from Allah Almighty taught the followers to practice cleanliness, on the whole body to mind and heart and surroundings.

According to teachings of Islam we must bath at least once a day and we must do Wudu before prayers.

We should also wash properly every time we use the toilet, because without cleaning ourselves properly, prayers are not accepted, and our efforts of prayers will be in vain.

We should wash our hair at least once a day and keep them brushed and neat. We should also brush our teeth at least two times a day because prophet Muhammad PBUH taught us to brush the teeth and do Miswak every time before Wudu. This shows the importance of oral hygiene.

Even we were taught to keep clean our hands and feet because germs spread easily from hands and feet to other parts of our body. Thus, we should make handwashing and bathing and cleanliness of the fingernails and toenails a routine, and scrub nails daily and trim them at least once a week.

Like ways the Holy Quran and prophet Muhammad PBUH urged always to put on clean clothe and He PBUH had deep appreciation for pleasant scents.

He encouraged his followers to use fragrances and apply them before attending prayers and important gatherings like Friday prayer and Eid prayers.

And with cleanliness of self, we should keep clean and neat our surroundings. We should keep our homes, school, classes, neighborhood, roads, parks, and environment clean and neat.
On the other hand, Islam taught of TAZKIYA which means cleanliness of mind and heart.

So, when we ourselves, our body, our thoughts, our surroundings, and our environment are clean and neat, we will be happy and healthy.
