The Month of Ramadan Is the 9th month in the Islamic calendar. It is of great significance to Muslims. It is time when Muslims show their devotion to Allah. During Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn till dusk. Ramadan is compulsory for all Muslims with exception for the ill, kids, pregnant women and the elders. Muslims try to be more closer to Allah by praying, reciting Hadeeth and the Holy Quran. Muslims also try to stop bad habits and be more Closer to their families during the month.

During this month, Muslims tend to break their fast together with friends and family. When breaking a fast, Muslims first eat dates and then proceed on to other food. This is because it is how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to break fast. The end of the Month of Ramadan is marked by a big celebration. This is called ‘Eid ul-Fitr’. Muslims go to Mosques to celebrate this day with others. During Eid, Muslims dress in their best clothes and give money to friends and families. They also give money to the poor and needy, this practice is called ‘Zakat’. Ramadan continues to be observed by Muslims as a way of strengthening
one’s faith and devotion in Allah.
