Ramadan-The Holy Month of Islam

Thursday, March 31, 2022

The festival of Ramadan is observed in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is believed that Ramadan is celebrated in the month in which the Muslims believed that the holy Quran was revealed to prophet Muhammed. Ramadan is the month in which people are required to understand the idea of forgiveness, worship and compassion in a deeper manner and practice them in their day -to - day lives.

The month of Ramadan commences when the full moon appears in the sky. The beginning of Ramadan is called the Suhoor. It is the meal you have before the fast. And the first prayer of the day is called Fajr. During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. This is called fard. Those who are ill, old, travelling and so on needn’t fast. People fast to purify their souls and change into a better human being. It is a religious act of the Islamic culture. One of the five pillars of Islam is fasting. It is done to remind themselves of the suffering of the poor and needy. This is the time when they concentrate in their faith and reflect on their deeds. Muslims break their fast after the sunset prayers with a meal called iftar. Some things which Muslims practice during the month of
Ramdan are:

1. Recital of Quran: By reciting the verses from the holy Qiran, one is trying to communicate with God. And Ramdan is the time to communicate to God the Almighty.
2. Offering of Prayer: During Ramadan, Muslims should offer Salat five times a day. Through this, one is seeking forgiveness from God.
3. Fasting: It is the fourth pillar of Islam and it reminds Muslims of the suffering of the poor.
4. Charity: Zakat is one of the five pillars of charity. It can be done in the form of money or food.
5. Show respect: One must be tolerant, compassionate and forgiving, as this is often what Ramadan aims to show us. The month of Ramadan promotes brotherhood and unity among the Muslim communities round the world.
6. Practice self-discipline and self-control: During the month of Ramadan, embrace the community spirit of compassion, self-control and self-discipline.

The end of Ramadan is known as Eid- Ul -Fittar -which means feast of fast breaking. It is marked on the first day of the month of shawwaal. This is celebrated with great joy and splendour. People wear new clothes, exchange gifts, decorate their houses and treat each other. People make delicious foods and share it with their family members.

So, let’s celebrate this Eid with great joy and enthusiasm. Eid-Mubarak
