Ramadan - The school of patience
Monday, March 28, 2022
Ramadan has come, to purify the hearts, to revive the souls, to erase the sins, to raise the ranks with Allah, to give freedom from the Hellfire.
Ramadan has come to us to strengthen the will, the self-determination, and to overcome the self.
In other meaning we are in the season of obedience and, in the season of generosity and mercy, in the season of pardon and forgiveness, in the season of winning paradise, and in the season of liberation from Hellfire.
And it is worth noting that, the main thing which leads us to success in this season is “patience”.
Prophet -peace be upon him-, called the Ramadan “The month of patience”.
Patience is the one of great morals of Islam, around which all morals and values revolve.
Ramadan educates us “patience”. In Ramadan, acts of obedience and stopping self from disobedience requires patience.
In Ramadan, fasting, recitation of the Qur’an, kindness, charity, feeding needy people, supplication and Dhikr, repentance and seeking forgiveness, pardoning, and other types of acts of obedience and acts of worship require patience.
The concept of patience:
Renowned Islamic Scholar Ibn Al-Qayyim said in his definition of patience: “Retention of the soul from anxiety and anger, and silencing the tongue from complaining, and stopping the limbs from confusion is patience.” He reminds us that there is no patience with anxiety and anger, but rather patience with pleasure and love, and handing over the whole matter to God.
