Indians remain largest expatriate community in Kuwait: statistics

Monday, January 3, 2011

Statistics issues by the Immigration General Administration indicate that the Indian community is still the largest expatriate community in the country. As on Nov 30, 2010, around 600,000 Indians were present in the country. Out of them, 233,000 — 157,000 men and 76,000 women — work as domestic helpers, while 81,000 are on dependent visa, including 26,374 men and 54,708 women.

The Sri Lankan community is the second largest, with an estimated population of 84,000. Bangladeshis, who are approximately 68,000, came third, and Filipinos came fourth with an estimated population of 60,000. Also, 48,000 Indonesian women and 129 men entered the country in the said year.

Update: The above statistics is based on non-Arab foreigners living in Kuwait.

First of all the title is wrong as Indians are definitely not the largest expatriate community in Kuwait.

The update at the bottom which is like a fine print or disclaimer is indicative of the incompetence of the editor of this news item.

According to 2009 figures, Kuwait's total population was 3,441,813, including 1,087,000 Kuwaiti nationals and 2,354,261 foreigners.

out of these 2,354,261 minus the 600,000 indians and you get 1,754,261 non indians expats. From this minus the total bengalis, philipinos, srilankans and indonesians totalling 260,129(from this report) and you get 1,494,132 as a number comprising, pakistanis, egyptians, syrians, lebanese, iranians, iraqis, westerners, other asians..etc..so there is definitely a chance that one of this nationalities can cross the 600,000 mark that is claimed for the indians..the statistics have probably recorded the visitors(visit visa) as well..So in other words if it is true that indians are the largest non arab expat community, then consequently indians constitute the largest non arab market for fast moving consumer goods in Kuwait.food for thought??

Friends, major flaw of this report, the way it is given, the media should be more vigilant in reporting such statistics, because Pakistanis and Afghanis are not there, thanx to the footnote(based on non arab foreigners). I hope IIK team will show more responsibility on this issue. We are expecting more professional way of reporting such statistics. All the Best!
