Kuwait, I Will miss you one day !

Wednesday, February 21, 2024

I have been an expatriate for the better part of my life. And I thoroughly enjoy this status. Daily, I co-inhabit two worlds. At work, I am definitely not in India. I smile and appease. At home, I am not in Kuwait. In my 2 BHK fortress, I rule with a flourish and relish leftovers for breakfast.

I love Palestinian stuffed cabbage leaves, koosas and vine leaves. Especially sweet and sour Dolmas Omg! How does one live without them? What will become of me when I am respectfully shooed off ???
And Dahi… So easily made with powdered milk. Where will I get this grade of full bodied dahi - standing thick and firm with infinite integrity.
Oh God! And what of
The Iraqi kebabs !
The Kuwaiti machboos !
Lebanese Baklava !
Local khaboos !
Saj draped shawarmas !
My darling Shani !
My kitchen so cool on hot summer days !
My gorgeous RAV 4 , full tanked in 5 dinars !
The men making way for women to pass !
The clean, free public restrooms !
The ubiquitous ‘Rehan’ shrubs, their exquisite wafts !
Browsing INDIANSINKUWAIT !
Midnight Sultan Centre forays !
The hassle free untaxed lifestyle !
And tell me, tell me……………….
How does one survive without Egyptian felafels?

You made words come alive
Now all I see is dancing food
Teasing and inviting

But why fret my Indian in Kuwait
Have a sip and a seat
For Talabaat is to the rescue!

Your darling Shani,
