In commemoration of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Indian Women in Kuwait -IWIK conducted a UNIMONI-sponsored seminar on ‘Let's Learn ABC - Awareness on Breast Cancer’ on Saturday, 27th October 2018 at Gurukul, Salmiya.
The Key Speaker at the event was Dr. Susovana Sujith Nair, Oncologist, Dept. of Medical Oncology, KCCC. The other Speaker was Dr. Akhila Vinod, Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yogic sciences, PG in Hospital Administration, and a NLP Practitioner.
Several studies have revealed that one of the reasons for the increasing incidence of Breast Cancer in the society is the lack of awareness pertaining to the prevention and early detection of the malaise. IWIK hence decided to do its bit and organize an awareness program in a bid to promote good health amongst women and men, and caution them against the harmful factors that contribute to the spread of cancer.
" To diagnose at a proper time and take appropriate treatment, is the best cure for cancer. Diagnosis of cancer at the primary stage is possible if the patient is well aware of the causes and symptoms of this disease. Lack of awareness among most of the women is the biggest hindrance”, said Dr. Susovana Sujith Nair. She discussed the causes, statistics and stressed the need for awareness of breast cancer and its different aspects. "A woman can prevent the spread of this disease by awareness and timely examination, " added Dr. Susovana. She also explained to the audience the correct techniques of self-examination.
Following the elaborate and clear depiction of the do’s and dont’s by Dr Susovna, the next speaker— Dr. Akhila Vinod dwelt on the dietary and stress-telated factors which play a crucial role in the prevention and cure of Breast Cancer. She and her student demonstrated the relevant Yoga postures that a woman can perform daily to prevent Breast Cancer.
This informative seminar was well-attended and appreciated. Several women, who listened in rapt attention to both the speakers, lauded the initiative by IWIK and Unimoni.
