Now 'Drug test' for expatriates

Thursday, June 8, 2023
Now

The Ministry of Interior is planning to introduce a “drug-free test” for adult expatriates to combat the scourge of drugs, limit its spread in the country, and dry up its sources. According to reports, the plan is to add it as part of the medical tests required for newly arriving expatriates. The negative drug test result test will be linked to the issuance of visa - either for work, visit or joining family, and will be also required for renewal for some categories of residents.

The resident will have to undergo the test and submit its result within the rest of the requirements when applying for the renewal of his residency.

The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health is working on identifying the centers that are equipped for this purpose, similar to the biometric centers, in addition to allocating specialized medical and security staff.

In the event that the result of the test is positive and it is proven that the expatriate took drugs, deportation measures will be taken against him immediately, and the residency is not renewed.

Good step by the government. Government should also ban on all kind of VAP sales and purchase. Most of the students at school and colleges are becoming addicted which is most dangerous to health of minors and alarming situation in Kuwait.

Well, this is a good step in combating drug usage but most of the drug users in Kuwait are not expats. When you don''t tackle the problem at the root such as stop letting drugs enter the country and educating the citizens, these half-measures won''t see any benefits. More so, drugs do not stay in the system for more than a month, so this control measure is honestly a paper-exercise.

May Allah Bless Kuwait Government,

Very good initiative to protect the society and youth, put all those culprits behind the bars who wants to destroy the society for their worldly greed selling drugs, alcohol and etc.

I wish Kuwait Government also ban cigarrates too.

I don''t see the benefit of a one-time drug test? Tests should be mandatory every 2-3 years, as should blood tests. Suggest these should apply to all inhabitants of the country as safety for all.
