Indian Community in Kuwait contributed 25 lakhs to last year

The Indian Community in Kuwait contributed around 25 lakhs rupee to the Kerala flood victims of 2021. The committee formed under the leadership of Dr Ameer Ahmad submitted the audited financial report to the Indian Ambassador in its concluding meeting held at the Embassy auditorium.

The Indian community from Kuwait contributed 8909 KD, (ie 25 lakh IRs), and the same was distributed to 434 families affected by the Kerala flood, which happened the last year, 2021.

Kerala flood Kuwait contribution

2021 has been the rainiest in Kerala in the last six decades. Over 40 people have died, and 1000s became homeless due to rains, landslides and flash floods in Kerala last October.

During that period, the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Shri Sibi George, called up a community meeting, and a committee was formed to support the people of Kerala. President of the Indian Doctors Forum Dr Amir Ahmad was selected as the chief of the committee, and three sub-committees were formed to facilitate financial support to the needy people.

A Fund collection committee headed by Mr SA Labba was able to generate 8909 KD from the community. The beneficiaries identification committee headed by Mr Jyotidas identified the needy families from four panchayats of Idukki & Kottayam along with Kuttanadu area of Alapuzha district which were the most affected by Kerala floods. The committee selected the families with due diligence and without any consideration of caste, politics or any other factors.

The fund distribution committee headed by Mr. Sajeev thanked BEC exchange company for their assistance in sending the financial aid to around 434 families, which also included the waving off of their service charges.

In the concluding meeting, the Audit Committee headed by Mr Shafi PT presented the accounts and handed over the audited report to Ambassador Shri Sibi George.
