Immediate deportation for serious traffic violations

The Ministry of Interior has begun to implement a tougher policy towards traffic violators, amounting to imprisonment for citizens and residents if they exceed the number of traffic points allowed for the violator.

According to local daily Al-Qabas, authorities issued a circular to activate the point system regarding traffic violations, especially those that lead to loss of life or property or obstruct traffic in the country.

According to the circular, expatriates will be deported immediately when they caught driving under the influence of alcohol, or driving without a license, as well as when they reach the maximum point for breaking the red signals or over speeding.

It is not possible catch over speeding as the violators slow down at cameras and take off soon after.

On the main highways cameras are required to be installed every 500 m for main lanes and to protect from driving on the left shoulder at speeds of higher than the stipulated 45 km/hr
