IES teachers bowled over on Teachers’ Day Celebrations

"Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers' Day." This humble proposal by an exemplary Indian guru, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India, has been dutifully followed by the student community of Bhavans Indian Educational School, Kuwait, since its inception. This year too, on September 5, 2019, as a gesture of profound reverence towards their gurus, the students of Bhavans IES solemnly celebrated Teachers’ Day with great gusto and gaiety.

The eventful day unfurled in the morning at 7.10 with a special assembly organised by the Student Council in the presence of Mr. T. Premkumar, Principal, Mrs. Anselma Tessy Judeson, Senior Vice Principal, Mrs. Jaemi Byju, Vice Principal, Middle Wing and Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar, Vice Principal, Co-Curricular Activities. The prayer song rendered by the school choir was followed by the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Quran, school pledge, Bhavans anthem and news reading. The School Head Boy, Daniel Thomas Koleth, addressed the assembly and expressed his deep gratitude towards his pedagogues on behalf of his schoolmates. The Deputy Head Girl, Farah Noorjahan Sahim, delivered a speech emphasizing the contributions of teachers towards the society and the roles of teachers in building a nation of responsible citizens.

After the assembly, the twelfth graders donned the mantle of teachers and engaged the students of grades 5 to 8 productively up to 12 noon by administering some highly interactive and enriching learning experiences in their allotted classes.

The highlight of the day hit the agenda chart at 12.45 p.m. when the cultural show organised by the Student Council started in the school auditorium where the teachers of IES and Jack and Jill were the exclusive audience. The show wrapped in endearing performances, emceed by the School Head Girl, Liana Maria Joseph and the Public Relations Officer, Aaron Yohann Thomas, started off with a video presentation titled ‘We Reached Out’ in which a few alumni of the school thanked their teachers for their substantial and invaluable contribution towards making them what they were. The band comprising the students of grades 10 and 11 entranced the audience with some of the popular album songs. The dance performance infused with dubsmash not only entertained the audience with its music and rhythm but also threw a barrel of laughs in the auditorium. The fun-packed cultural extravaganza had everyone in awe.

The merriment stretched to the school’s badminton court where the teachers partook in some interesting games with extreme zeal and ardour. Tug of war turned out to be a scene stealer as the enormous enthusiasm of the teachers literally broke the rope into two pieces. Some music driven games were also conducted that ensured maximum participation. The sweet muffins distributed by the students added an extra, exquisite flavour and sweetness to the whole celebration.

As tokens of appreciation from the school management, gifts were given away to the teachers of IES and Jack and Jill by Mr. T. Premkumar, Principal, IES and Mrs. Rathi Ravindran, Principal, Jack and Jill. Mr T. Premkumar, Principal, in his address, appreciated and thanked the Student Council for making the day a memorable and remarkable one with an array of refreshing and recreational activities. Jerome John Thomas, the Captain of Seva House received a special appreciation for his fine singing. The celebration also witnessed a special segment of congratulating a group of three class teachers from the Department of Mathematics, Mr. Babu Chungath Jacob, Mr. C. Venu Madhava Reddy and Mrs. Deepamol K.S. who ensured cent per cent participation in the National Math Olympiad from their respective classes. The whole progamme was wound up with a proposal of vote of thanks by Mrs.Meenakshi Nayyar, Vice Principal Co-Curricular Activities, who extended her heartfelt gratitude to the members of Student Council for organising an event of that kind.

The teachers were overwhelmed by the thoughtful gesture of the students and felt appreciated with a deep sense of exhilaration on the special day marked by great pomp and show.
