Embassy felicitated Indian blood donor heroes on World Blood Donor Day

On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, Embassy of India organized a function to felicitate Indian blood donor heroes. Embassy gave away certificates to those who donated blood on more than ten occasions in Kuwait, some are even 28 times!

Ambassador of India to Kuwait His Excellency Shri Sibi George, in his opening remarks, commended the silent yet stellar contribution of blood donors in saving lives on a micro level and in strengthening the healthcare system on a broader macro level.

Appreciating the efforts of various Indian Community Associations in organizing blood donation camps in Kuwait, he underlined the importance of such social work activities and encouraged them to continue the good work. "For us it is a day to remember and honour many of our blood donor heroes. There are many of them, in most cases they are our unsung heroes," Ambassador said.

I am told that Indian community has been successful in providing some of the rare blood groups such as Bombay group. A feeling that you made a difference for somebody is probably one of the best feelings one can ever have, Ambassador Sibi George said.

President of Indian Doctors Forum Dr Amir Ahmad, also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of various Indian associations in organizing blood donation camps in Kuwait. He assured all support of Indian Doctors Forum for any such community activities.

Through a video message, Dr. Hanan Al-Awadi, Director of Blood Transfusion and Administration Services, Kuwait, congratulated the blood donors from the Indian Community and highlighted the crucial role played by the well organized, committed, voluntary Indian blood donor groups. Dr. Hanan emphasized that the role played these groups ensured safe and sufficient blood supply to those in need during this extra ordinary time. Ambassador had a telephone conversation with Dr. Hanan Al-Awadhi earlier today when both sides appreciated the exemplary role played by the Indian volunteer groups in ensuring supply of safe blood in Kuwait.

Dr. Sadaf Alam, from Sabah Maternity Hospital under Ministry of Health, also explained in detail various aspects of blood donation.

Various leaders of Indian association, who are in forefront for organizing Blood donation camps in Kuwait, lighted candle to mark the occasion of World Blood Donors day.

The event, which was live streamed on Embassy’s social media handles, witnessed enthusiastic participation and response from people from all walks of life in Kuwait.
