COVID-19 outbreak in Kuwait under control, says Minister of Health

Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basel Al-Sabah has assured the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Kuwait is manageable.

The ministry is monitoring on daily basis some cases of those who had contacted infected people, Sheikh Basel said in an extraordinary cabinet meeting held Monday at Dar Salwa under the chairmanship of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He pointed out that the total number of infections in the country jumped today to 189 cases after registering a new case.

A total of 30 of the infected people have completely recovered and left hospitals, he said, noting that there are 10 others who are about to complete their treatment and leave hospitals soon.

The minister, however, warned that the crisis might worsen in the coming two months as the pandemic is still spreading across the world. After these two months, the number of new infections is expected to slow down before taking a downward curve, he projected.

Sheikh Basel said that Kuwait is ready to secure any vaccine for the deadly virus once it becomes available. Kuwait has secured malaria and HID medicines, which are used to help suppress symptoms of the infection, he unveiled.

Meanwhile, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has assured that Kuwait has huge and ample stockpiles of food and medicine. "We have huge food and medicine stocks, but we have to manage it wisely," he said in an extraordinary cabinet meeting held Monday at Dar Salwa under the chairmanship of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

His Highness the premier, however, urged rationalization of consumption to avoid squandering these stockpiles.

@Catherine Francis

From your posts we can understand your desperation to meet your loved ones. Be aware that nobody in this IIK forum has the authority to decide on when the Kuwait Airport to be opened.
As you are aware, the world is in a turmoil and things are beyond anybody''s control at the moment.
Therefore my advise is that you need to be little patient and let the virus dust settle down for the flights to resume between the countries. It will be a matter of few weeks that you will have a memorable reunion with your loved ones. God bless us all.

I don’t know why Indians are so selfish when people are separated from their family and with no salary many are suffering. God will never bless people who think like that. If their family is here they’ll talk like this. Indians not infected only people coming from abroad are infected. Not even one community acquired so far. So help others to get safer. God will bless all.

It''s better to close Airport for further 2 months. Allow people to exit/departure from Kuwait only and not allow to enter/any new arrivals to Kuwait.

If it opens the entry, this pandemic will come again. As the number of cases in many countries are still spreading and rising.

Congratulations Kuwait ... That''s the most swift action and perfect execution ever seen in these conditions. Where the whole world was busy waiting for the pandemic to come inside their household, kuwait is the only country in the work who worked on keeping it off their country. Sincere thanks for the Kuwait Government for making this place safe.
