Anti-Vaping Campaign at Indian Public School

Indian Doctors Forum, Kuwait organized an Anti-Vape awareness campaign at Indian Public School, Salmiya for teenagers on the occasion of ‘World No Tobacco Day’-31st May. The programme, aimed at educating students about the dangers of vaping, was conducted by the Vice- President of IDF Kuwait, Dr. Sajna Mohammed.

The programme was inaugurated with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony. In her welcome address the Principal of Indian Public School, Mrs A Cherian, spoke about the harmful impact of tobacco on the young generation. She said that a country can be destroyed by destroying its youth and the need for saving our youth from the grip of this evil-tobacco.

Dr Sajna commenced her speech by talking about Indian doctors Forum comprising of all the doctors in Kuwait which works for the benefit of the public. Their activities include community services such as the Health camps, School Health programs, Community health Seminars, Annual Health Guide and other activities for community services in conjunction with other Indian associations in Kuwait under patronage of the parent Kuwait Medical association. IDF has more than 500 Indian doctors as its members. Every year IDF conducts many free medical camps which benefits a huge section of the needy expat community.

With the help of a power point presentation, she explained to the students the harmful effects of tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations. She delved into the details of the addiction, drew a comparison between smoking cigarettes and vaping to highlight the health hazards involved, showed the various brands and styles of e- cigarettes available in the market aimed at enticing the youngsters. The students were warned against the dangers involved and advised to steer clear from this evil which is benefitting only the tobacco mongering businessmen. This enlightening session concluded with the students taking a pledge against smoking.
