 Ramadan – A Holy Month

First of all, a very prosperous and blessed Ramadan to all of them out there. As we all know we are going through a special period – Let’s know more about Ramadan.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is one of the most holiest, sacred and prayerful month. Ramadan comes from the Arabic a Arabic word “ar-ramad,” which means scorching heat. It is the 9th holiest month of the Islamic year. Ramadan is the holiest month where all muslims all over the world dedicate themselves in prayer and fasting.

Why is Ramadan important?

Muslims believe that an angel named Gabriel appeared to Prophet Muhammad and revealed to him the Quran. It is believed to have happened during Ramadan. Muslims fast during that month as a way to commemorate the revelation of the Quran.

How do muslims fast during Ramadan?

They follow a very strict observation of lent, i.e. they fast from dawn until sunset. They don’t eat or drink not even water and they spend a lot of time in prayer.

“Ya 'ayuha aladhin amnuu 'ana alsawm mashrue lakum kama shurie liman qablakum litanmiat waey allh"(Alquran 2: 183).

“O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may develop God-consciousness." (Quran 2:183).
