National Youth Day

Youth is recognized as one of the building blocks of any country that takes it to the successful path in all possible ways. The future of every country depends upon how the youth is educated, trained and mentored that makes a path for the generations to come for every country. I-I-I i.e. Innovation with great ideas having interest by Youth brings opportunities for a nation to excel and to move in the forward path. This is why it is very much essential to recognize Youth’s importance and laudable impact of youth to the country.

National Youth Day, also known as Vivekananda Jayanti, is celebrated on 12th January, to honor the birthday of Shri Swami Vivekananda Ji, one of India's greatest leaders and believers of youth power. He was an ardent disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Ji. In 1984 the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day and since then the event is celebrated in India every year with much enthusiasm. The Government of India quoted that 'the philosophy of Swami Ji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could be a great source of inspiration for the Indian Youth

The theme of this year’s National Youth Day is “It’s All in the Mind...” Let me recall the quote of Sh Swami Ji .. “ We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far”. Through this small article, I offer my sincere Pranam and prayers to Sh Swami Ji and I request each one of us to read his articles/books and draw inspiration that can help us to contribute positively to the society.

Just to bring the facts about our Country, Today, every fifth person in India is an adolescent (10-19 years) and every third – a young person (10-24 years)

Investing in this segment of population is the best way to leverage the nation’s competitive advantage – its demographic dividend. India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35. In 2020, the average age of an Indian is 29 years, which is one of the best tools for our country to focus and nurture in a positive way.

Hon. Prime Minister of our country Sh Narendra Modi will inaugurate and address the five-day festival on 25th National Youth Day. National Youth Festival will be held to celebrate the 159th birth anniversary of spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda. The five-day festival will be held in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The aim of the festival is to increase bonding between the diverse cultures of the country to strengthen the unity of the nation. I extend sincere thanks to H.E. Sibi George Sir and Embassy of India, Kuwait for scheduling an event on 12th Jan, 2022 to celebrate National Youth Day in Kuwait.

I would like to end this article by quoting Sh Swami Ji (whose posters are there in my study room)…. “Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached”.

Wishing one and all “ best wishes” on this very important day.

“Give me 100 energetic young men and I shall transform India”, Vivekananda had said. His faith in the Indian youth never wavered. “My faith is in younger generation, modern generation. Out of them will come my workers. They will work out whole problems like lions.” He believed and lived by the ideals of Tyaga (Sacrifice) and Seva (Service).
