Kuwait, My Second Home

As an Indian girl born and raised in the heart of Kuwait, I’ve always felt a deep connection to this beautiful country. Though my roots trace back to India, my heart beats with memories and experiences in Kuwait—a place I proudly call my second home.

Growing up in Kuwait has been a journey filled with warmth, culture, and countless cherished moments. The first thing that strikes me about this country is its gracefulness. There’s a quiet elegance in its golden deserts, the stunning contrast of modern skyscrapers against the endless blue of the Arabian Gulf, and the way the city lights sparkle at night, reflecting the dreams of people from all walks of life. It’s in these simple yet breathtaking sights that I’ve found a sense of belonging, a feeling that Kuwait isn’t just where I live—it’s where I’ve grown.

As a child, I truly believed I was a Kuwaiti citizen. This country was all I had ever known—it shaped my first words, my first steps, my earliest memories. So, when my parents gently explained that I wasn’t, in fact, a citizen but an expatriate, it was a moment of confusion for me. I had never felt different or separate from the place I called home. Yes, there are certain things reserved only for Kuwaiti citizens, but the beautiful truth is that I’ve never felt like I lacked anything. Kuwait’s warmth, opportunities, and sense of community have always made me feel included, cherished, and at home.

What I love most about Kuwait is how it embraces people of all faiths. Despite being a nation deeply rooted in its own traditions, Kuwait fosters an environment of respect and acceptance for diverse cultures and religions. As a Christian, I’ve experienced this warmth firsthand. The NECK compound (National Evangelical Church in Kuwait) stands as a beautiful example—a place where people from different denominations come together peacefully to practice their faith. I still remember the phenomenal New Year celebrations, where so many churches gathered at one time, united in prayer and hope as we welcomed the new year together. Witnessing people from different backgrounds standing side by side, filled with joy and gratitude, was absolutely breathtaking—a true reflection of Kuwait’s spirit of unity.

Another remarkable thing about Kuwait is its generosity and care for all people, regardless of their background. The cost of food here is affordable, making it accessible even to those facing financial hardships. This isn’t just about economics—it reflects a deeper value of compassion, ensuring that no one feels left behind. It’s heartwarming to see how, in a world where many struggle with basic needs, Kuwait extends a hand of support to its people.

Kuwait isn’t just about the places—it’s about the experiences. I love going out with friends and family, and Kuwait offers countless places to explore, from the iconic Kuwait Towers standing tall against the skyline to serene beaches where the sea whispers stories of distant lands. But my favorite memories are from our trips to Kabed, a place where we’d book a spot and spend the day, twice a year. Those days were filled with laughter, delicious food, and simple joys—playing games, sharing stories, and watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and pink. It wasn’t just a getaway; it was a tradition that brought us closer as a family, a reminder of how the simplest moments often become the most cherished.

Moreover, the relationship between India and Kuwait is something I deeply admire. It’s not just about diplomatic ties; it’s a friendship built on trust, respect, and shared histories. As part of the large Indian community here, I’ve seen how both nations support each other, whether through cultural exchanges, economic partnerships, or during times of crisis. This strong bond makes me feel connected to both countries in a way that’s hard to put into words.

Living in Kuwait has taught me values that go beyond borders—respect, resilience, and gratitude. It’s shown me how to cherish the little things: the beauty of a desert sunset, the calmness of the sea, and the warmth of a community that feels like family, even when you’re far from your homeland.

While India will always be my homeland, Kuwait holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I took my first steps, formed my earliest memories, and discovered who I am. No matter where life takes me, Kuwait will forever be more than just a country on a map. It’s my second home—a land of grace, acceptance, and unforgettable memories that will live within me, always.
