The Book That Connected Worlds

Ten-year-old, Jennie who loved to read was constantly curious about the world around her. It was summer holidays, and the morning sun was shining bright making it a very hot day. Jennie couldn’t go outside to play, so she decided to go through her collection of books on the shelf.

She skimmed through the bookshelf, only to realize that she had already finished reading all of them.

Determined to find something new, Jennie went to check her father’s collection of books. And there it was – a brown-colored, leather-covered book.

She loved the touch and feel of the cover, so she gently pulled out the book and read the title, “The Historical Relationship Between Kuwait and India.”

As she looked at the book, thousands of questions came rushing into her mind. Curious and eager to find the answers, Jennie opened the book and began to read aloud…
Since ancient times, Indian merchants have been present in Kuwait, trading spices, clothes and pearls. Over the years, there have been significant religious, linguistic and cultural exchanges between the two regions.

In the 1950s and 1960s, as Kuwait’s oil industry began to grow rapidly, many Indians migrated to Kuwait, seeking employment, particularly with the oil companies. This migration played a key role in strengthening the bond between Kuwait and India.

Soon after Kuwait gained independence, India and Kuwait established a strong formal diplomatic relationship. Kuwait continued to support India, particularly through the export of oil. Indian workers contributed immensely to the development of Kuwait’s service sectors.

Today, India and Kuwait enjoy a traditional and friendly relationship characterized by strong business ties, a significant Indian expatriate community and cooperation in both regional and global forums.

The historical relationship between Kuwait and India is a rich tapestry of trade, migration, diplomacy and shared cultural exchanges. From the early days of maritime trade to the modern era of economic cooperation and mutual support, the ties between the two countries have only strengthened over time.

As India and Kuwait look to the future, their relationship is set to grow even further, with both nations exploring new avenues of cooperation and strengthening their partnership in the global arena.

Jennie closed her book, she was left speechless at the thought of how two countries, kilometers apart, are still connected and have such a deep and meaningful relationship. She marvelled at how people from different parts of the world, with their unique cultures and histories, could come together through trade, migration and shared values. It made her realize that no matter how far apart nations may be, their histories, stories and connections bind them in ways that are often invisible but incredibly powerful.

Jennie smiled and amazed by how the world’s history is like a big, connected puzzle, with hidden ties that bring people together, even from faraway places.
