Fruitful India-Kuwait relationship

Wednesday, February 22, 2023

Kuwait had a very friendly relation with India in the past and present time. This friendly- diplomatic relation began in June 1962 with the appointment of Mr.Abdulaziz Al-Rasheed as the first Kuwait Ambassador to India. Can you imagine that there is 6-7 lakh indians in Kuwait? And of course,it is very necessary to maintain a healthy relationship with our nation which shares the one-fourth population of Kuwait. Kuwait is connected by all means of transportation- air, water and land to India. Even the job opportunities are always awaited for indians for their skilled and talented work with Kuwaitis. Kuwaitis welcome indians with all their kind-hearted mind to their country’s beauty.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Bombay was a huge hub for the various Kuwaiti businessmen, and the Amir himself maintained a house on Marine Drive. There were several visits between the countries. Starting from the Indian side Vice President, Dr. Zakir Husain in 1965, Hamid Ansari in 2009, and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1981 have visited Kuwait years ago. Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah visited India in 1964, the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah visited India in 1980 and again in 1983 (for the NAM Summit), HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah visited India in 2006 and the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah visited India in November 2013. Visits of high officials of Kuwait to India and vice versa have only strengthened the relations.

India is one of the largest trading companies of Kuwait. Till the discovery and development of oil, Kuwait’s economy depended in its fine harbor and maritime activities which included ship building, pearl diving, fishing and voyages to Indithea on wooden dhows carrying dates, Arabian horses and pearls that were traded for wood, cereals, clothes and spices. Also,Kuwait is the source for 10-12 % of India’s oil imports. In addition to oil and petrol, India also imports steel products boilers , machinery and mechanical appliances , electrical machinery and equipment from Kuwait.

Kuwait is a secular and sovereign country just like our India. It is home to many historical museums.Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre and Scientific Center are one of the most attractive museums in Kuwait which is best for educational purposes.

I think this takes us to the conclusion of this article! I’m very proud of our motherland and beloved Kuwait for such a successful history to date ,I hope it will be maintained and developed day by day. So just like how the title goes ‘SHUKRAN KUWAIT’ from the bottom of India’s heart for every inch of love and service provided for us.Lastly,I would like to wish with pride a very Happy National and Liberation Day to our beloved Kuwait on behalf of India!
