Happy 61st Anniversary to Kuwait and India!

Wednesday, February 23, 2022

From ancient days to the modern world, Kuwait and India has had a significant and strong relationship. Until the discovery of oil in Kuwait , Kuwait’s economy mainly relied on its fine harbour and maritime activities like ship building, diving, fishing and voyages to India for the transportation of popular kuwait specialties- dates, Arabian horses and pearls. These were then traded for wood, spices, clothes etc in India. For centuries, there had always been a well built trade relationship between India and Kuwait. Upto this day, they still remain as strong partners and India is one of the top ten trading partners of Kuwait. Furthermore, fun fact: Until 1961 the Indian Rupee was the legal form of payment in Kuwait! Moreover, not only does India and kuwait have a good trade relationship but an excellent political relationship as well. There has been lots of visits of both leaders to and from Kuwait and India and I think this evidently demonstrates the long lasting friendship between the two countries. In addition to that, the medical cooperation between India and Kuwait has been fantastic as well: India and Kuwait had signed an MOU ( Memorandum of understanding – Basically an agreement) on Medical cooperation on April 23rd 2012 at New Delhi. This has indeed strengthened both the medical fields in India and Kuwait. Last but not least, there has even been regular cultural exchanges between Kuwait and India frequently. For example, “A festival of India in Kuwait” gained lots of interest and “Kuwait Cultural week “ In Jaipur and New Delhi was very successful as well. All this certainly proves Kuwait and India to be remarkable partners in every aspect. This year marks the 61st anniversary of the diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait. We all have strong faith that This wonderful relationship would keep propelling forward, Happy 61st Anniversary to Kuwait and India!
