India celebrates January 26th every year as its Republic Day commemorating the empowerment of Indian Citizens to select their own system of governance. It’s a day to honor the Constitution of Independent India. On January 26th 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect; this memory is celebrated all over the country.
Flag hoisting is conducted in schools, colleges and public places as part of the celebrations. Citizens dress in the tricolors of the Indian flag. It also includes speeches by politicians, singing patriotic songs and distributing sweets.

However, the main attraction is always the Delhi Republic Day Parade at Rajpath, New Delhi. Marching from the gates of Rashtrapathi Bhavan along Raisana Hill on Rajpath which is past the India Gate and from there to the Red Fort. This Parade lasts for 3 days showcasing India’s Defense Capability and Cultural Heritage. It begins with the unfurling of the National Flag by the President of India followed by marching of various regiments of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force along with their bands.

The distribution of Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards to the civilians are awarded every year during the Republic Day Parade at Delhi.
On 29th January, which is the last day of the Parade, a Beating Retreat by the three wings of the Indian Military, is held followed by a number of patriotic songs bringing the Republic Day Celebrations to an end.

Apart from only celebrating the Republic Day, let us understand its significance and not forget the struggles of our forefathers to freedom and salute them for their endless struggle to make our country a sovereign state.

JAI HIND !
