Republic Day marks an important event in India’s history. It commemorates the enactment of the Constitution of India which came into effect since 26th January, 1950, and made the nation into a republic. Many of us have fond memories of the Republic day parades that would air on television and incite a sense of patriotism in everyone.

After attaining independence from the British rule, the new constitution was enrolled by the drafting committee under the deanship of Dr BR Ambedkar. The Indian Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950, which declared India’s occurrence as an independent republic. January 26th was chosen as the date because on this day in 1950, the Indian National Congress revealed Purna Swaraj, the declaration of India’s independence from the colonial rule. Republic Day signifies the right spirit of Independent and individual India. The important symbols of the festival include the exhibition of military equipment, the national flag and military equipment.
The Republic Day Parade is the main attraction on this day. People in Delhi attend the parade at Rajpath. Beating the cold weather, Delhites gather in huge numbers and witness the beautiful spectacle. The president of India hosts the National Flag and honors the brave citizens of India by presenting bravery awards - Paramvir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Children's National Bravery Award.

The Prime Minister of India pays homage to the brave souls who lost their lives in wars. He lays a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate in Delhi to show respect to the martyred soldiers. The schools in India have a holiday on this day, but students come to school and celebrate this national day by hoisting the National Flag, performing dances, skits and having sweets.

Let us make a promise that we would not let the hard sacrifices of our brave freedom fighters go in vain. We would work hard to make our country the best in the world. Happy Republic Day 2022!
