Republic Day is a national holiday in India, when the country marks and celebrates the date on which the constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950. It is a day that is important to every Indian citizen. It marks the day when India became truly independent and embraced democracy. It is one of the three national festivals of India.

This year in 2022, we will celebrate the 73rd republic day of India. On 26 January every year, people from across the country celebrate Republic day with enthusiasm. Republic day is celebrated in every village, town, city and capital. 26 January was chosen as Republic day because it was on this day in 1929 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed. Moreover, it marks the end of the British rule and birth of India as a Republic State.
Republic day is a national holiday in India. However, schools celebrate the day with patriotic zeal and enthusiasm, with students and teachers organizing cultural programs and performances to make the day memorable. The main Republic day celebration is held in the national capital, New Delhi, at the Rajpath before the President of India. It is followed by a 21 gun salute and the national anthem. On this day, parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India; its unity in diversity and its rich cultural heritage. In the end, color balloons are released into the sky. Tricolor made by the aeroplanes is also a very memorable show.

The Prime Minister of India lays a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, in memory of all people from the military who surrendered their life for the country. The Beating Retreat ceremony is held after the end of Republic day festivities. It is conducted on the evening of the 29 January. The three wings of the military, the Indian army, Indian navy, and the Indian Air force perform it. On the eve of Republic Day, the President of India distributes Padma Awards to the civilians of India every year. These awards are given in three categories, viz. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, in decreasing order of importance. We salute to all the freedom fighters and the national heroes who have contributed to get the Indian Independence.

Jai Hind!
