Her story

There was a nation
That was truly a sensation
It flourished with marble and gold
She was extremely bold

But that is when they came
And that is what shattered the frame
They bound her up in chains
And took away her terrain

She tried to break them
She felt as if she was a shattered gem
She was broken and in despair
It was completely unfair

She was battered and bruised
She felt that she was abused
She wanted to give up
But she knew if she did it would be an overflowing cup

She struggled in her prison determined to be free
Even though there was no guarantee
She tried and tried and she was in pain
She felt as if it was all in vain

She decided to give it one last try
Although she felt as if she wanted to cry
She gave it her all
And down came the prison wall

She was free at last
No longer held captive like in the past
Now people show her respect
After all India is no country to neglect
