Fearless Souls

Regardless of the fear,
Which coursed through their veins.
They stood strong,
And faced the battle through night till dawn.

Beauty blossomed in their strength
And brave souls they became.
They made the enemy lines quake,
With their glares which swore them death.

I admired their courage,
But a question remained.
Why? Why are they so eager to give their lives for our mother country?

One of them smiled and spoke,
As if they read my mind.
It’s this desire to protect our loved ones,
And the honor we feel to serve a country so great,

That lets us befriend death and bring glory to our motherland.

I felt a chill down my spine as I looked on,
As the solider slowly departed.
Back into their resting place,
As I unfurled our flag.
