Kuwait Cracks Down on Donations via WhatsApp Payment Links
Sunday, May 11, 2025
Kuwaiti authorities have intensified monitoring of fundraising activities conducted through digital platforms, particularly bank payment links shared via services such as "Wamd" and messaging apps like WhatsApp. Officials have warned that any individuals or organizations found violating regulations will be subject to legal accountability, investigation, and potential referral to the Public Prosecution.
Sources confirmed that strict scrutiny will apply regardless of whether the bank accounts involved are personal or corporate.
In a recent case, authorities arrested a mosque imam and preacher who had been sharing stories of people in need and collecting donations through payment links tied to his personal bank account. He is currently under investigation, and his case is expected to be referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action.
Authorities have issued a firm warning to both citizens and residents against using their bank accounts to send or receive payment links for donation purposes, stressing that violations will not be tolerated.
