Kuwait goes to parliamentary polls today

Kuwaiti citizens will vote for their representatives at the National Assembly on Thursday, April 4th. Two hundred candidates, including 13 women, are in the fray for the 50 seats.

Voting is due to start from 12:00 pm to 12:00 midnight on Thursday and counting of votes begins immediately after that and the first results are expected in the early hours on Friday. The government has declared the election day a public holiday to allow more voters to turn out. Banks are also closing doors to allow their employees to participate.

According to statistics issued by the Election Affairs General Department in the Ministry of Interior, the number of citizens who are eligible to vote totaled 834,733 – 405,948 men and 428,785 women.
