My Experiences with Quizzing

Human Beings as social creatures, should always try to be aware of the world we live in. And quizzing itself is a world filled with adventures, twists, and turns. An atmosphere of great expectations and unpredicted downfalls. For every quizzer, whenever he walks onto the stage it is like a separate zone – filled with different topics and unbelievable facts. For me quizzing is a passion, it is something that I truly dedicate, to be frank even more than my studies.

Quizzing entered my life like a breeze when I was in 2nd grade, introduced to me by my teacher Shabana Ma’am. I started learning basic facts, which instilled in me a curiosity for such stuff. My first step in quizzing came when my school conducted Discover I (G.K and subject test, based on grade). It gave me the enthusiasm and eagerness to gain more and more knowledge. From the beginning, I was immersed in geography, whenever I heard about a new country it was a hobby to go to Wikipedia and read about all of the details and interesting facts. It even helps us to write more proficiently, based on facts.

And slowly I started getting exposure to quiz competitions outside my school, and they were all wonderful experiences filled with mixed emotions. After every quiz, I would take a quick analysis of all the questions and see what I could have answered. My first quiz outside the school came when I was in 4th grade. I was quite shy and wasn’t expecting to qualify for the final. But we gave our best, and miraculously qualified for it and came 5th.

After that quiz, I continuously began to attend many online competitions during COVID-19 and offline ones too. The pandemic was one of the biggest blessings, which opened me to the ocean of knowledge, and I was able to attend a lot of quizzes and gain a ton of knowledge. Geography and history grew up to be my favorites, and I would try to never let questions related to it slip away. And slowly with determination and hard work, I began to achieve positions and make my school and my parents proud. My journey with quizzing is truly unforgettable and filled with a lot of hardships. Quizzing is a field, which anyone can conquer just with passion and devotion.

Anyone, who wants to be a quizzer, must read a lot of books, and cement a base in static knowledge. And then continue to add more and more bricks, by surfing the internet and getting current affairs, even though newspapers and web portals like IIK, Kuwait Times, and many more. Every bit of knowledge is capable of changing the way the wind blows, and I have even experienced it very recently. I had the KITCO quiz upcoming and on that day, we all were sitting in the office room, and my partner was looking through a newspaper. But I had asked her not to, because it was just one day old, and I had expected that they had already prepared the questions. But just as it turned out to be, a question came in the prelims, and we got the answer due to that newspaper.

KITCO Quiz was a great experience for me, I was able to represent my school twice, and this was my last year as students till grade 8 can only participate. This quiz competition is based on a quite different model, along with direct questions and many connection rounds. And another thing is the buzzer. The quiz also mainly focuses on the buzzer speed. Answering the question by hitting the buzzer, is a very difficult task as if we get a negative, it would ruin our whole morale. And can also affect the rest of the quiz, just like what happened to our team this year. The buzzer is just like life, we assume that every mistake can ruin us, but in reality, if we stay strong and do not get tense, we can overcome any situation.

Quizzing as a whole, cannot be summed in just a few words. Just like organisms having taxonomy, quizzing also has classifications and divisions based upon topics. No one in this world might be able to attain all of the world’s knowledge, but we could use and obtain more knowledge from different websites and books. Not even a single person is perfect with quizzes, everyone makes mistakes, so let us all be aware of our surroundings, try to learn new facts every day, and keep expanding our wisdom.
From my experience Reading books improves one’s writing, but gaining knowledge makes it even better.
