World Migratory Bird Day is a BI-Annual (13 May and 14 October) celebration on migratory birds by The United Nations Environment Programme by United Nations (UN) to create awareness about the conservation of Migratory birds and the associated habitats .This year's theme for World Migratory Bird Day, which is “Water: Sustaining Bird Life” seeks attention on the importance of conservation of water and water habitats which are crucial for the Migratory birds.

As you know water is the key to life on our blue planet. A wide array of migratory birds rely on habitats near water, Whether it is for finding food or drinking or nesting or simply to take rest and cool off during their strenuous effort to reach their destinations. Wetlands, rivers, lakes, mud flats, marshes, ponds (artificial and natural), coastal flats all play a vital role in this.

But regrettably these habitats associated with water are shrinking or getting polluted due to human activities as well as climate change which are a reality now, this puts a direct impact on availability of fresh water for both humans and Migratory birds as well. This year we stress on identifying key actions for protecting water resources and aquatic ecosystems.
