Kuwaiti Union of Fishermen appeal government to open entry visas for expatriate fishermen

Sunday, January 29, 2023

Head of the Kuwaiti Union of Fishermen Dhaher Al-Suwayan requested the government to open entry visas for expatriate fishermen as the fishing sector is in dire need of fishing workers.

Al-Suwayan called on the Minister of Interior, Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, to open entry visas for expatriate fishermen, because the fishing profession involves great hardship, and the workers are not available in the local market. As a number of fishing workers left the country and is unwillingness to return, the sector is facing huge labour shortage. Many members of the union have applied for new work permits, however, it is neither rejected nor approved.

Al-Suwayan appealed to the Minister to exclude fishing labor, and to approve the issuance of new work permits, so that they can resume their work and supply the local market with fish and support the food security system.
