India won her freedom on the 15th of August 1947 and became a republic on the 25th of January, 1950.

A special assembly was held in SIMS by class 6A students under the guidance of their class teacher Mrs. Sumayya Lambe on 23rd January to celebrate this auspicious day. The auditorium and stage were decked up with tri-coloured decorations that enhanced the patriotic spirit.

The students took pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of unity in diversity, as well as paying homage to great souls who sacrificed themselves to attain freedom and equal rights to all.

The assembly commenced with the Principal/Director Dr. Anis Ahmad addressing the 6th and 7th graders by reminding them of their patriotic duty towards their country. Dr. Anis Ahmad reiterated and explained the thought of that day, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” (John F. Kennedy). The main highlight of the assembly was the roleplay that depicted the contributions of some great freedom fighters of India like Rani Lakshmi Bai, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, Razia Sultan, Begum Hazrat Mahal, Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose etc. along with their popular quotes. This was followed by a patriotic song and dance. The rich culture and diversity of our nation was showcased through these activities, and it left the spectators spellbound.

On this auspicious day, students of 9A and 9B added a feather to the SIMS cap by releasing their manuscript ‘16 Reflections and The Multiverse’ under the patronage of their revered English teacher Mrs. Sruthi Nandakumar. The book release was presided over by the Principal/Director of SIMS, Dr. Anis Ahmad.

The assembly concluded with the senior Vice-Principal, Mrs. Sajitha Menon applauding the performance of the students and encouraging them to follow school rules and abide by it dutifully.
