A fancy dress competition not only blends learning with fun but also develops confidence in students by giving them an opportunity to speak in front of a crowd. Although perceived as a mere fun activity, fancy dress is a great benefit to children especially for preschoolers and for children that are in the foundation years for building their imagination and vocabulary. The fancy dress competition titled “In my lunch box”- for LKG and “Things around us”-for UKG saw a massive turnout at the Salmiya Indian Model School, Kuwait. A total of 410 students from kindergarten participated in the competition.

Fancy dress competition brings out the creativity and ingenuity of the parents and provides the tiny tots an opportunity to light the stage on fire with their amazing attire, and the same was witnessed at SIMS. The medium could not limit the creativity of the parents who dressed their children with boundless imagination. The LKG students were dressed up as an orange, mango, banana, pizza, grapes, sandwich, mac and cheese, fries, mango etc. While on the other hand it was a delight to see the UKG kids in an array of wonderful costumes such as smartphones, money, love, vehicles, flowers, camera, washing machine, water, etc.

The children participated with a lot of enthusiasm and displayed their confidence while speaking, they presented themselves by sharing information about the things they depicted. To them it didn’t matter if they won or lost, all that mattered was the way they presented themselves. Their innocent words and stage presence won the hearts of teacher’s, judges and parent’s, everyone was mesmerized to say the least.

The competition proved to be a great learning experience for the students and gave them a platform to explore their hidden talents. It was indeed a most wondrous event made only more successful by the presence of the parents and sweet voices of the students!
