IES Bhavans, Kuwait Holds its 14th Annual Athletic Meet:‘Funathon 2022’

To inculcate the core values of sportsmanship and synergy in the minds of young Bhavanites, Indian Education School Bhavans, Kuwait organized its 14th Annual Athletic Meet and Drill Display on 26 November 2022 in Bhavans Smart Indian School playground. The chief guest of the day was Mr. Javier Lujan Fernandes, Head Coach of Kuwait Sports Club, whose eminent presence inspired the star athletes of the day to perform their best on the track.

Amidst the mounting excitement and unbridled enthusiasm, the dawn of the eventful day was grandly unfurled at 8.00 am with the hoisting of Kuwait and Indian National flags followed by the National anthems of the two countries. To invoke the blessings of the Almighty, Sahal Anzar of grade 12 recited a few verses from the holy Quran followed by a soulful rendition of the prayer song by the school choir. The Minister of Sports of the Student Parliament of IES, Viveka Ramkumar of grade 11, welcomed the august gathering.

The spectacular March Past was led by the BSS cadets (Bhavans Service Scheme), members of the Student Parliament of IES and the House Captains and Vice Captains, accompanied by the house members of Sanskriti, Satya, Seva, and Tapas. Displaying perfect decorum, unbeatable synchronization and soldierly precision, the marching contingents ceremoniously saluted the chief guest.

A formidable team of 24 exceptionally talented athletes of IES led the torch run of the 14th IES Annual Sports Meet 2022.The chief guest lit the everlasting ‘flame of sportsmanship’ and handed it over to Aryan Joe Varghese and Akhilesh Shibu, the vigorous athletes and celebrated tennis players of the school. The oath of allegiance was administered conjointly by the Ministers of Sports of the Student Parliament - Ashutosh Bhat and Viveka Ramkumar.

Mr. Javier Lujan Fernandes, while declaring the annual sports meet open, reminded the young athletes of the importance of handling failures rather than successes. He added that one will be able to tackle tough times in life more easily than others if he triggers the spirit of a sportsperson in him. A Poinsettia plant was presented to the chief guest as a token of reverence and gratitude.Spurred by the thunderous applause from the spectators, the tiny tots of grades 1 and 2 performed their well-coordinated free-hand drill display. The tikes of grades 3 and 4 dazzled the audience with their rhythmic Zumba moves. The tweens of the middle and senior sections showcased their ‘Funathon’ extravaganza through their fun-filled dance steps.

The audience witnessed heated athletic sessions of the students as well as the parents with unending applause that sparked the vigour and verve of the vibrant athletes. The excitement reached its zenith when the much-coveted trophies were given away to the first, the second and the third prize-winning houses by the chief guest. Tapas house bagged the championship trophy with 159 points. Sanskriti house with 123 points was declared the first runner up and Satya house with 111 points was declared the second runner-up of IES 14th Annual Sports Meet. The winners of the athletic events from grades 1 to 12 were awarded trophies by the Chief guest and the Chairman, Mr. N.K Ramachandran Menon in the presence of the Principal, Mr. T Premkumar, the Vice Principals and the Headmistress. Ashutosh Bhat, Minister of Sports of the Student Parliament of IES, delivered the vote of thanks. The emcees of the day were Abipsa Panda (11 E), Aarya Anilkumar (11 D), Sanuthi Nihinsa Wickramaarachchi (11D ), Joel Dan Shibu (12 C), Ms Pushpalatha B and Aliuska Lawrence (Faculty of English).

As quoted by the chief guest "Regardless of the situation, regardless of the scoreboard, you're going to be successful because you put in all the time, all the effort, all the hard work and you know that it's going to pay off.’’ Let the hard work, commitment, and dedication of Bhavanites help them soar higher and higher into the vast expanse of success.
