“Be Smart, Don’t Start: Youth Against Drugs” – focus International Kuwait inaugurates 3-month campaign

Focus International Kuwait inaugurated a 3-month campaign aimed at tackling the global issue of rising number of drug usage especially amongst youngsters. Despite short notice, the huge turn up of crowd at the event which was held Super Metro Salmiya is testimony to the importance and necessity of the campaign. Abdul Rahman Tangal, President Indian Islahi Centre, inaugurated the campaign while Hamza Payyanur officially released the campaign pamphlet. This pamphlet carries the core message and shall be circulated at the various events that is set to be conducted throughout the campaign. Firoz Chungathara, CEO focus International Kuwait, delivered a presentation on the various jargon and types of drugs that is commonly used while emphasizing on the negative consequences it can have on the person and the society. A session titled “The Science of Silence” was handled by Dr Saleem Kudungal, wherein he spoke on the neuroscience behind addiction. In his presentation, Dr Saleem also shed light on the various approaches and effectiveness of rehabilitation. A brief on the thought process that lead to focus International taking up the campaign and on how the international youth group is planning to execute the events partnering with other organizations like Bashayir Al Khair was presented by Zaid Mohamed. Anas Mohamed welcomed the gathering iterating on the responsibility of focus’ involvement in combating social evil. The program ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Shershad.
