AMU Old Boys’ Association Kuwait chapter celebrated Sir Syed Day

AMU Old Boys’ Association Kuwait Chapter celebrated 205th birth anniversary of the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh; Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.

The Alumni Association of Aligarh Muslim University all over the world celebrate Sir Syed day with great enthusiasm. In 1875, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan established the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental (MAO) College which is today known as the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Sir Syed was a scholar, reformer, statesman and a visionary or to summarizing one word an ARCHITECT of modern education. A man of great determination, he in 1864 established a ‘Scientific Society’, considered as the first modernist organization.

A British magazine of 19th century “The Englishman” mentioned Sir Syed’s work as -“Sir Syed’s life: an strikingly illustrated one of the best phase of modern history”. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan a name which will stay alive till eternity. The onus lies on the AMU fraternity to spread Sir Syed’s rationality, modernity, manners and amity across the world.

In order to pay tribute to the architect of modern education- Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, a grand event was organized on 27th October 2022 at Al Dorra ballroom, Hilton resort Kuwait.

The event was a huge success, the turn up of the Aligs for the event was extraordinary. The Ballroom of 450 Capacity was fully occupied. Joint Secretary Mrs. Shazia Mansoor started the program by inviting Master Sibghatullah for the recitation of Quran and it’s translation by Miss. Samia Adil.

AMUOBA President Mr. Aslam Parvez delivered the presidential speech while welcoming Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, Distinguished Guests and AMU Alumni in Kuwait. The President briefly highlighted the works and achievements of AMOUBA Kuwait. He emphasized on the need to take Sir Syed’s mission forward by concentrating on education, innovation, research, building knowledge-based objectives and taking the reputation of the country to new heights. He also appreciated the generous & active participation of AMOUBA towards academic support and helping students from weaker sections of the community to achieve their goals and fulfil their dreams.
Further in details AMUOBA General Secretary Mr. Asif Equbal presented the progress report/achievements of AMUOBA.

The Chief Guest Pro-Vice Chancellor of AMU, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, Guest of Honor Principal Women’s college AMU Prof. Naima Khatoon graced the occasion. There was warm welcome by the audience at the venue and AMUOBA honoured them with memento. Dr. Khalid Al- Anezi (an alumnus of AMU Aligarh) graced the occasion and delivered the speech.

Mr. Sabihuddin threw light on life of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan followed by speech delivered by Dr. Anis Ahmad (Director SIMS- Salmiya).

All invited and eminent speakers on this occasion echoed the same sentiments of Sir Syed mission towards modern education. This event provided ample opportunity and an enjoyable experience of meeting innumerable talented Algerians and friends of AMU and discussing Sir Syed mission towards education.

Among the distinguished dignitaries Mr. Johnny Foster and Mr. Ayub Shabab (Former Honorary Secretary - AMU Students Union) graced the event. There was galaxy of other distinguished members of public life, academicians, and administrators, social & academic activists from India and Kuwait who actively participated in this function.
Mr. Ayub Shabab with his excellent speech created an aura of nostalgia.

AMUOBA felicitated the gracious presence of senior members Dr. Anis Ahmad, Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khan, Syed Mohammad Ashraf & Mr. Ilyas Khan on the occasion.
The souvenir was released by Mr. Asim Kidwai & the Souvenir team, later AMUOBA President invited Chief Guest, Guest of Honor & distinguished guests on stage for opening the Souvenir.

To entertain the guest and audience a quiz on Sir Syed was organized by Mr. Asif Equbal and Mr. Mohammad Khurshid Anwar and the winner were given prizes on the spot.
For an event to be successful the contribution of sponsors is always sought after. Many sponsors from different organizations contributed generously for the event & AMUOBA would like to thank all of them for the great support. AMUOBA Kuwait is grateful to Mr. Mobin Khan - Regional Business Head (Middle east) Dabur International- Target marketing India Ltd. for showing generosity by distributing gift hampers to all those who attended the program.

We are thankful to First Look Studio for their remarkable LED Screen presentation, perfect sound system, drone photography, videography to give bird’s eye view. EC Member Mr. Masroor Alam along with Asif Equbal have played significant role in designing the slide show.

To entertain the children there was a drawing competition which was arranged by Mr. Taqui Hasan- DOSD AMUOBA and the judges appointed for fair judgment were Mrs. Shalini Varshney, Mr. Avinash Varshney and Mrs. Nubla Khan. The results were declared and winners were given gifts.
AMUOBA recognized the students who are children for alumni for their hard work and dedication by academic excellence award. Awards and rolling trophies were given to the sports winners and runners up.

Lastly the most widely sung university anthems in the world, was the pinnacle of the programmes; AMU TARANA ‘ yeh mera chaman hai mera chaman, main apne chaman ka bulbul hu’. Written by Asrar-ul-Haq (Majaz Lakhnawi )

The Tarana team performed magnificently, the anthem was a crowd puller. The audience clapped and cheered the team. Mrs. Shazia Mansoor along with Tarana team Dr.Humaira Khatoon, Mrs. Shiba Rafat, Dr. Iram Chaudhary, Mrs. Zeba, Dr. Maryam Khan, Mr. Ahmed Imroz Khan, Mr. Sabihuddin, Dr. Adil Obaid, Mr. Aslam Parvez, Mr. Yousef Abdullah, Mr. Tariq Waseem and Mr. Kashif Hussain gave live performance along with the music provided by Mr. Johnny Foster and Mr. Prabhdeep.

The vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Iram Chaudhary Vice President followed by fabulous dinners.

At the end of the program there was a raffle draw and gifts were given to first five winners.

The event was successfully conducted by active involvement and impeccable level of commitment and dedication shown by AMUOBA President Mr. Aslam Parvez & his Team Dr. Iram, Mr. Asif Equbal, Mrs. Shazia Mansoor, Mr. Ahteshamullah Khan, Mr. Taqui Hasan, Mr. Masroor Alam, Mr. Adil Sareer, Mr. Yusuf Abdullah, Mr. Ahmad Imroz Khan, Mr. Kashif Husain, Mr. Shahid Kalam & Mr. Syed Nadeem Iftikhar.
