The Ministry of Communications said on Wednesday that it has signed a contract with a consultancy office to complete a feasibility study for the privatization of the fixed telecommunications network through the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of State for Communications and Information Technology, Mishaal Al-Zaid, said in a press statement that this project is receiving great attention from the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Rana Al-Fares. He stated that Minister Al-Fares chaired the preparatory meeting with the advisory office concerned with developing investments in the telecommunications sector, in the presence of the joint committee from the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority.

He indicated that Minister Al-Fares gave her directions to those concerned in this matter to speed up completion and overcome all obstacles so that the project could be implemented as soon as possible.

He pointed out that this step came after several meetings held by the joint committee between the ministry and the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority for the project to develop the fixed communications network, which was chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications.

Al-Zaid said that this step comes within the ministry’s aspirations to provide new job opportunities for Kuwaiti youth, as well as to enhance state revenues in line with the vision of New Kuwait 2035. He pointed out that this project falls within the ministry’s program to develop its services, especially in the field of communications, which is an essential axis in the advancement of all fields, whether economically or socially.
