One of the most important days of India is independence day which is held on 15th August every year. It is important because India received independence from the British after 200 years of rule. The British first came to India as a small company called the East India Company and their primary motive was to trade with Indians, spices were in demand in Britain as well as in Europe. Major trading spots were Calcutta, Bombay and Madras. Slowly but surely, the East India Company started to transform from a trading company to a ruling one.

The British crown soon started to take direct control over India. The living condition of people living in India got worse as the British would implement a taxation system and no domestic goods could be produced which means that the wages earned would not be enough to feed a family. As a result, 24 famines killed 15 million people in India.

Living your life under the control of the britishers was very hard. Getting independence was the most crucial task to everyone living in India during the early 20th century. The only feeling that can encourage people is the feeling of freedom. So, making a flag, naming the flag was important. On our Independence day we proudly raise this flag and sing our national anthem to respect all the people who risked their lives for the future of our country.
