Writers’ Forum Kuwait pays tribute to legendary Urdu Critic Gopi Chand Narang

Renowned Urdu critic and one of the strongest pillars of Urdu literature, professor Gopi Chand Narang, was remembered and paid homage at the monthly meeting of Writers’ Forum Kuwait, held on 24th June 2022 at the residence of the General Secretary Ms. Nazneen Ali.
The meeting started with Ms. Nazneen Ali inviting seasoned English poetess Ms. Sabiha Bilgrami as the President of the evening and great poetry lover Mohan Singh as the Chief Guest.



Writers’ Forum Kuwait is a literary organization formed with the aim of providing platform for multilingual poetry and grooming young talent to achieve poetic standards. The organization thus works towards the spread and enrichment of Literature. In accordance to this vision, the meeting started with condolence and reverence to great Urdu Scholar Late Prof Gopi Chand Narang. Keeping the tradition of remembering legends in their respective fields alive, the Forum’s President Mrs. Maimuna Ali Chougle presented an indepth article about yet another prominent Urdu scholar Late Manaazir Aashiq Harganvi. The article was well received and appreciated by the members.



The meeting entered into its second session with Nazneen Ali reciting an Urdu Ghazal. The members further enjoyed a series of Ghazal renditions by Shakeel Jamshedpuri, Saeed Nazar Kadpawi (Urdu) and Pankaj Pawan (Punjabi). Ameeruddin Ameer and Shabeeh Ahemd’s urdu poetry mesmerized the audience. Maintaining the multilingual spirit of the Forum Ms. Kalpana Shah recited her poem in Gujarati and Hindi, while Dr. Radhika Guleri Bhardwaj amused everyone with her Hindi Poetry. In an attempt to groom the next generation of poets, the members applauded the English poem presented by a young and promising poet Danish Shakeel, son of Forum’s member Shakeel Jamshedpuri.
The session culminated with Chief Guest Mohan Singh expressing his good wishes for the Forum and reciting English poem composed by his daughter Parminder Kaur while in her Presidential remarks, the President of the evening, Ms. Sabiha Bilgrami artistically wrapped up the meeting by creating an exquisite picture of each member’s presentation through her beautifully woven words.



The meeting ended with Ms. Nazneen Ali thanking everyone for their presence while members expressed their gratitude to her for the appetizing dishes and warm hospitality.
