Indian Embassy organised grand event to conclude India Environment Week in Kuwait

Embassy of India in Kuwait organized a grand ceremony on the concluding session of India Environment Week, which was inaugurated on June 5th. The week long event was to celebrate the India’s contribution to Climate Action and generate awareness on climate change which is one of the most crucial issues that the world faces today. Large number of dignitaries including Ambassadors of various countries attended the event on Thursday evening at the Indian Embassy auditorium.

Ambassador of India to Kuwait, His Excellency Shri Sibi George while delivering his remarks highlighted India government's commitments in combating climate change through its several programmes and schemes including National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC), National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change to support the areas that are vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change etc. He underlined the significant progress made by India in our efforts to save the planet. He said that it is a matter of pride for India that the India’s forest cover, population of lions, tigers, leopards, elephants, rhinos etc. are increasing. India’s commitment to reach 40% of installed electric capacity from non-fossil fuel based sources has been achieved, 9 years ahead of schedule. India has ensured a reduction of almost 40 million tonnes of Carbon di Oxide per year and has achieved 10% ethanol blending in petrol, 5 months ahead of target. Ambassador also mentioned about the ‘Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE), a global initiative launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on World Environment Day (5 June) this year and said that the idea promotes an environment conscious lifestyle that focusses on ‘mindful and deliberate utilisation’ instead of ‘mindless and destructive consumption’.

During the week long celebration, Embassy also organized a series of activities which begin with a symbolic Tree Plantation event planting a mango tree at India House. Various programs such as Daily online Quizzes, Painting and Drawing Competition and presentations on India’s successful climate action were also held during the week.

During the concluding ceremony on Thursday, an exhibition on Indian Herbal Medicinal Plants was inaugurated by the Ambassador along with a number of resident Ambassadors present at the celebrations.

Ambassador also felicitated the winners of painting & drawing competition and daily online quiz conducted during the Indian Environment Week.

Colorful cultural performances by Anjali Schoool of Dance, including Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kavadi Chindu, semi-classical etc, added colors to the event.

The event was attended by many resident Ambassadors and members of diplomatic community in Kuwait, media persons and members of the Indian community.
